My Center

You know that phase in life when you feel content and don’t feel the need of running behind anyone or anything? I feel like I am there, right now. I have arrived. I am good… life is good. I often tell my husband that I feel content. This certainly doesn’t imply that I have no desire to learn something new or go somewhere new, or meet someone new or level myself up. This simply means that that special happy feeling deep inside my heart, it keeps me grounded.. leveled.
So back to the post, the only reason of being MIA was that I had no thoughts to share here. This certainly doesn’t mean that I had nothing exciting going on in my life, on the contrary, I am loving life as it is.. I just did not feel the need to pen anything, ya know! I was just doing ok in my small world. So why this post, you may ask? I don’t know.. I just felt like writing, so here I am. Everything I have ever posted here has always been directly from my heart. And today, my heart is content. Yes, in the middle of all the chaos that this world is facing, I am trying to find my Center. Leaving you with this beautiful poem –

A Center
By Ha Jin

You must hold your quiet center,
where you do what only you can do.
If others call you a maniac or a fool,
just let them wag their tongues.
If some praise your perseverance,
don’t feel too happy about it—
only solitude is a lasting friend.

You must hold your distant center.
Don’t move even if earth and heaven quake.
If others think you are insignificant,
that’s because you haven’t held on long enough.
As long as you stay put year after year,
eventually you will find a world
beginning to revolve around you.

An old blue dress

This dress deserves a second appearance on the blog. Last time I wore it on the blog was when I was five months pregnant. Oh good times.. And now I am always chasing my 17 months old trouble maker. Well, as I mentioned, this feather-light dress deserves another mention. The color is soothing and the fabric feels like rose petals. It’s a must for my summer wardrobe. I wear this and I feel I have nothing on me (don’t get any ideas ok!) 😉 Isn’t that a good feeling under the scorching Florida sun!
Last time I kept it simple with plain white sneakers, however this time I glamorized it with accessories. That totally changes the look. Check out how I styled this dress last time HERE.

Dress is Old Navy, sandals are Kenneth Cole (a T.J.Maxx find) and the bag is also from T.J.Maxx (similar one). Necklace is from Burlington and earrings are old.

Now is the time

I have a question for you. When you buy something new, say a dress or a pair of shoes or fancy napkins, do you wear (or use) it the next chance you get or you save it for a special occasion? I ask because for years I used to be one of those who would save new stuff for those special occasions which frankly do not come that often. A couple months ago, I finally let go of this habit. And it is has been life changing. I’m not exaggerating, seriously. It is so, so liberating to not save your favorite dinner set for special guests or that lovely dress for a special night. Live for TODAY. Today is the only moment you can be sure of. Past is gone and who knows what future holds. Right now is all that we have.

Again it was a super windy evening which is clearly evident from the pictures. This beautiful contrast trim blouse is from Target and the skirt is five years old. Bought  these blush tassel earrings from Asos. Oh and these green heels. Can it get any better? They are Anne Klein and out of stock now. Sorry! 🙂

Pleats and Flowers

I would’ve never opted for this outfit combo 5 years ago. My mantra had always been to balance the proportions of the outfit. If the top is big and flowy, the bottoms should be slim and fit and the vice versa. Why you ask? Because I’m not your average skinny girl. I’m curvy and have always been. I love my curves but sometimes it gets tricky to dress up when you love a piece of clothing but your body shape doesn’t agree with it. So you got to balance it out. This helps accentuate the curves and doesn’t make you look like an apple with a head and legs! So well, here we are.
This year all I want to do is wake up everyday and break my own set notions. I feel like all these boundaries that I have created for myself, must be taken down. All our lives we set these limits for ourselves – we must not do this, do that or I won’t ever wear this or that etc. and all that crap. Time to break it all and set yourself free. 🙂
P.S. Would you believe if I tell you I found this gem of a skirt for merely 12 bucks lying in the sale section of H&M. I lucked out, right?
P.P.S. No make up (except sunscreen), since I wanted the flowers to do the talking. Just kidding.. forgot to wear my lipstick! Ha. 😉
P.P.P.S. {Promise this is the last one} I cut my hair short (again, I know!) to a short bob (think Winona Ryder in Square Dance minus the bangs). So this is the last post with longer hair, or a pony if you will. Ok bye.
