5 Things to do immediately after a Workout

Let’s come to the point, and directly head to the list –

  1. Relax/Stretch Do breathing exercises. Let your breath come to normal pace. And stretch as long as you want. This will help ease the muscle pain (which happens the next day). I personally love it though 😉
  2. Drink loads of water. Pretty self explanatory.. duh!!
  3. Wash your face: The skincare advocate in me will never go to sleep. The usual perception is to let the sweat dry, but in reality you don’t have to do that! You can absolutely wash your face immediately after your work out is done (and you should), specially when you follow Point 1, the sweat will be almost dried out. So please, don’t let that sweat, dirt and grim set in to your pores. Wash it off.
  4. Have your post workout snack. Within 20 minutes of your workout, eat your post workout shake/snack/fruit etc. Your body needs that extra source of energy that time, plus it will yield you good results as your metabolism will boost as well.
  5. Pat yourself on the back. OK you can totally skip this one (or not) 😉 But I get so proud of myself after my workout, walk back home looking straight up! I feel like I am not cheating on my body and we both are in a honest, true relationship!!

Do yo have more to add to the list?

P.S. Please ignore the clutter in the picture. Usually I am more organized than this 😛

How to Make Your Skin Glow

My photographer, my partner in crime not being with me all the time has made me a ‘selfie-pro’ (if that’s even a term)! Anyhow, I am getting good at it. As I said before – past weekend was hot and amazing! I went city surfing all by myself (I am not one to sit at home just because I don’t have company)!

However this post is not another rant about how my weekend went! Lately I have been asked umpteen of questions by my family members, friends and even blogger friends about the ‘sudden’ glow in my skin! Is it make-up, a dietary supplement, a medical treatment or something else! Well today, I am answering all those questions here –

So I have made some major changes in my lifestyle. Its been only 2 months, however, the results are amazing! This post is purely based on my personal experiences.

  • First of all, what you eat reflects. If you eat junk, you will look like junk. I cook all my three meals at home. I love Indian cuisine, and that is what I eat everyday. Chapati, Curry, Rice, Salad, Green vegetables – everything.
  • I do not smoke, drink alcohol or any kind of carbonated beverages (even the ‘diet’ or ‘zero calorie’ ones are toxic). I limit my coffee intake to just 1 cup a day.
  • I don’t eat deep fried food. And if I do, it has to be cooked at home (by me 😉 ). So no chips, wafers etc. for me. And trust me I don’t crave for it either!
  • I have ‘doubled’ the amount of water I drink. This has made a HUGE impact on making my skin look supple (which you can see here). 🙂
  • I cook most of my food in good ol’ classic mustard oil. And I generously smear Desi Ghee (clarified butter) on my chapatis! This is very important for digestion and keeps my skin hydrated from inside.
  • I have massively reduced sugar intake. Now I drink my coffee and tea without sugar. Yes – it took me a good two weeks to get used to the taste, but now I love it so much that I can’t imagine putting sugar in my coffee/tea.
  • I eat an apple and a banana everyday. I make sure I eat at least two kinds of fruits every day.
  • Thankfully I don’t crave for sweet or sugary stuff. I hate candies and also not a big fan of desserts. But I love dark chocolates. I eat one small piece every other day.

These were my dietary changes. Now comes the cosmetic part –

  • I chucked out all foaming face washes from my bathroom. The foam strips the face from its essential oils, makes it look dry and patchy. It’s very bad for the skin (even oily skin). Now I wash my face only with balms or cleansers which do not foam. (Read more on how to cleanse skin properly).
  • I apply a very generous layer of sunscreen all over my face and neck before going out. SPF 30 is the minimum and SPF 60 is the maximum that I use.
  • I don’t touch my face all day. And if I have to, I make sure to use a fresh tissue instead of tocuhing it with my bare hands. The idea of transferring all the germs from my hands to my face just grosses me out! But yes, this has helped reducing my breakouts.
  • I scrub my face only once in 3 weeks. Srubbing irritates the skin,  which is not good. And I use a very, very mild scrub whenever I do.
  • At night, my face ritual takes 15 minutes (sometimes even more). First I cleanse my face twice, and then tone it with a salicylic acid toner. Toning is very important – as the toner will stop the breakouts even before they pop up!
  • Then I apply an under eye cream following with a serum all over my ace and neck. After that using 2 -3 drops of a facial oil, I massage my face and neck for 30 seconds and leave it on for the skin to absorb it completely.
  • Then after 30 minutes or immediately before going to bed (which ever happens first), I apply a night cream all over my face and neck. This ‘time gap’ gives the facial oil and the serum to absorb completely, so that my night cream can sink in as well!

So that’s it! Oh yes, and I workout – the sweat is also important! So I have been doing all this for 2 months, and frankly I love the results.

Exercise Does Magic to Your Body

Yes I have been neglecting this pretty little blog for a quite few days now! It’s just that I am way toooo occupied in my professional and personal life these days.. But as they say, better late than never! Right? Right.

Ok, so when you look at these pictures do you see some difference? Something different in me.. maybe? Do you notice I am looking quite slimmer than before!! 😀

Not to brag, but I feel A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Not sure how much weight I have lost (because I really DO NOT believe that your weight describes how ‘fit’ you are), but I certainly feel very light! It’s only my third month with these Bootcamp classes in my city, and I already feel so strong and so energetic all the time! This feeling is the best feeling in the world (better than the post-shopping high!). REALLY 🙂

I promised that I will keep you all updated on my journey, and here I am.. keeping my promise like always.. Do you see the happiness on my face here? That is what you get when you do something with full dedication! When I started working out, I had no goals, no expectations. To say the least, I did not see any results for the first 5 weeks. 5 WEEKS!! Some people lose hope by then. But I kept going. Then slowly and gradually I started seeing the difference in my performance. I don’t get tired so easily, push-ups are no more ‘an extremely painful’ exercise for me! I am so much better at running now. My pants fit me differently.

Now, it is like a routine.. If I skip a work-out session, I make up for it on the weekend! But I religiously work out four times a week. And hard work pays.. It did for me! It will for you too.  And I understand that this is just the beginning! I have a very, very long way to go. So what are you waiting for?? Go! Workout. Run. Play. Swim. Dance! Do whatever you like! Don’t let that gym membership go to waste. YOU paid for it. It’s your hard earned money. You better make very good use of it!

And trust me, your body will thank you in soooo many ways. Just be regular. Show up everyday. Don’t expect to see the results the same day or the same week. It takes time. Have patience.

I could only push you (through my words), it’s YOU who has to do the ‘main’ work! So good luck!

I wore this dress to the farmer’s market this weekend. I love, love, love farmer markets. I may never have said it on the blog before, but I do LOVE them! They take me back to my childhood when my father and I used to go to these farmer markets every Sunday to buy groceries and fruits! 🙂
